Trump Unloads On GOP Senator

Trump didn’t hold back at all.

In a fiery denunciation on Monday, ex-President Donald Trump unleashed a torrent of criticism against Senator Bill Cassidy of Louisiana, branding him as “one of the most ineffectual senators” in the entire United States Senate.

Trump, 77, who had previously thrown his support behind Cassidy during the senator’s 2020 re-election bid, expressed profound disappointment over Cassidy’s 2021 vote to convict him during the impeachment trial stemming from the January 6 Capitol riot.

Taking to his platform, Truth Social, the presumed Republican frontrunner for the next presidential race lambasted Cassidy, dubbing him “a complete liability, despite his party affiliation.”

Cassidy was among the seven Senate Republicans who broke ranks to vote in favor of Trump’s conviction for incitement of insurrection.

Trump spared no punches, deriding Cassidy as “utterly devoid of backbone,” while asserting that Louisiana had been adequately represented by him during his tenure.

The former president contended that Cassidy’s seemingly opportunistic political maneuvers, including a speculated run for governor, only underscored his lack of allegiance.

Cassidy, for his part, had previously asserted that Trump’s chances of reclaiming the White House were slim, suggesting alternative contenders like President Biden and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.

With DeSantis bowing out of the presidential primary earlier this year and polls indicating Trump’s lead over Biden in a potential rematch, the ex-president’s ire towards Cassidy seemed amplified.

Adding fuel to the fire, Cassidy publicly criticized Trump’s rhetoric regarding migrants, describing it as “dehumanizing” during a March interview on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

The rift between Trump and Cassidy deepened as the latter joined the ranks of GOP senators who refrained from endorsing Trump’s potential 2024 presidential bid, signaling a widening chasm within the party.

As the political landscape continues to shift, the discord between Trump and Cassidy epitomizes the ongoing struggle for control and cohesion within the Republican Party, leaving room for speculation about its future trajectory.
