Every time Democrats try to bury Trump he just gets stronger.
The Trump presidential campaign announced on Friday that a recent guilty verdict in the Manhattan hush money trial spurred an unprecedented fundraising effort, resulting in $34.8 million from small donations by midnight on Thursday.
The campaign reported that this significant amount was raised between 6 p.m. and 11:59 p.m. on May 30. This surge in donations followed closely on the heels of the jury’s decision, which found Trump guilty of 34 counts related to falsifying business records to hide payments made to former adult film actress Stormy Daniels during the 2016 election.
Shortly after the verdict was announced, Trump posted a fundraising link on his Truth Social account, calling on 10 million of his supporters to contribute to his campaign. This appeal led to a temporary crash of the GOP’s WinRed fundraising platform due to the overwhelming number of visitors. The platform was back online within about 30 minutes.
Campaign advisers Chris LaCivita and Susie Wiles reported that the digital fundraising system was inundated with support immediately after the trial’s conclusion. Despite the temporary online delays, the campaign managed to raise the record-breaking amount from small-dollar donors. They highlighted that this sum was nearly double the largest single-day amount previously recorded on the WinRed platform. Additionally, they noted that almost 30% of the contributors were new to the platform.
This fundraising milestone follows other notable campaign achievements, such as raising $4.18 million the day after Trump’s booking and mugshot at a Fulton County, Georgia jail in August. In April, the campaign garnered $76 million, an increase from the $65.6 million raised in March.
The fundraising appeal, released by the Trump National Committee Joint Fundraising Committee, characterized Trump as a “political prisoner,” despite the improbability of him serving any prison time. The message emphasized the urgent need for support, portraying it as a stand against tyranny.
Trump’s sentencing is scheduled for July 11, just a week before he is expected to accept the Republican nomination for president.
