It’s all for votes and voters should know the truth!
Former White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki shockingly revealed on Wednesday that President Biden’s recent executive order regarding the southern border was influenced by political concerns leading up to the 2024 election. This admission came after Biden refrained from addressing inquiries about the timing of the order.
The executive order, disclosed on Tuesday, stipulates that the US-Mexico border will be closed if daily crossings exceed 2,500 for seven consecutive days. This measure will remain until the average daily crossings drop to 1,500 over a seven-day period.
Psaki, speaking on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” acknowledged that the decision was partly driven by Biden’s need to address a significant political issue. She noted that while action was necessary, the political implications were also a major consideration.
“There’s an undeniable need for action, but this is also a significant political vulnerability,” Psaki remarked. “Regardless of the criticisms regarding the specifics of the order, it remains a political challenge for the president and his campaign. They are fully aware of this.”
Biden’s refusal to entertain questions about the timing of the order—just months before the November 5 election—has drawn criticism. Critics argue that the move, coming so close to the election, appears politically motivated.
The new order, even if strictly implemented, would still allow approximately 1.8 million asylum seekers into the US annually. It has faced backlash from both political sides, with many Republicans accusing Biden of using it as a political maneuver ahead of the 2024 election.
Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) criticized the order on social media, labeling it a deceptive tactic aimed at voters. She pointed out that in his first 100 days, Biden issued numerous executive orders to open the border, suggesting this has been his consistent objective.
Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) echoed this sentiment, stating that the executive order signifies Biden’s acknowledgment of his ability to address the border crisis, yet he waited until an election year to act. Cruz described the timing as mere political posturing.
Former President Donald Trump also criticized Biden, suggesting the order was merely for show, intended to mislead voters.
The executive order has also caused division within Biden’s own party. While some members, like Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), viewed it as a necessary step, others expressed strong opposition.
Senator Alex Padilla (D-Calif.) argued that the order compromised American values and would fail to resolve the underlying issues, potentially endangering those seeking asylum.
Representative Rashida Tlaib (D-Michigan) condemned the order, calling it “outrageous.” She emphasized that seeking asylum is a fundamental human right and criticized Biden for seemingly reverting to harsh policies reminiscent of the Trump administration. Tlaib urged for an end to the dehumanization of migrants fleeing violence in search of a better life.
