Here’s what happened.
Senator John Fetterman found himself in a collision over the weekend in Maryland, where he was determined to be “at fault” by authorities. According to a police report, Fetterman was driving his Chevrolet Traverse at a speed significantly exceeding the posted limit of 70 mph on Interstate 70 when he rear-ended a Chevrolet Impala driven by a 62-year-old. Witnesses corroborated that Fetterman was traveling at a high rate of speed just before the accident occurred.
The extensive six-page police report, acquired by USA Today, clearly indicates Fetterman’s responsibility for the crash. However, neither Fetterman nor the other driver underwent testing for drugs or alcohol following the incident. While it remains uncertain whether Fetterman was distracted at the time of the collision, the report confirms that the driver he collided with was not distracted.
Despite inquiries from various media outlets, including The Post, neither Fetterman’s office nor the Maryland State Police provided any comment on the matter. The senator, accompanied by his wife Gisele, was hospitalized briefly following the Sunday morning accident. A spokesperson for Fetterman disclosed that he sustained a bruised shoulder during the incident.
Similarly, the woman operating the other vehicle also required medical attention for a “suspected minor injury,” as noted by police reports. Notably, no citations were issued immediately after the crash, although Maryland State Police emphasized that the investigation remains ongoing.
Fetterman’s health has been a topic of concern in recent years, with notable incidents such as a stroke during his Senate campaign in 2022, which led to the installation of a pacemaker and a defibrillator. Additionally, last year, shortly after assuming his Senate duties, Fetterman sought treatment for clinical depression at Walter Reed Hospital, where he remained hospitalized for more than a month.
