Republican Celebrates Kamala’s VP Pick
Maryland’s Republican Senate candidate, Larry Hogan, recently extended his congratulations to Governor Tim Walz of Minnesota for his selection as Vice President Kamala Harris’s running mate. Hogan, who served as Maryland’s governor and collaborated with Walz during that period, took to social media to express his well-wishes.
“I want to offer my congratulations to Governor Walz on being chosen as the Democratic vice presidential nominee,” Hogan wrote on X. “Despite our different political affiliations, I have always respected his commitment to public service. Having worked with him as fellow governors, I recognize the value that experienced governors bring to the national stage. I wish Tim and his family success in the upcoming campaign.”
In contrast, Hogan’s reaction to former President Donald Trump’s choice of Senator J.D. Vance as his running mate was notably less supportive. Hogan criticized the pairing, suggesting that Vance and Trump have struggled with issues relating to women. “There’s no denying that,” Hogan remarked. “The comments made were unhelpful and unlikely to improve their position. It doesn’t seem like Vance is starting off in a way that would benefit the campaign.”
Hogan admitted his lack of personal acquaintance with Vance, stating, “I don’t know J.D. Vance personally. I’ve heard that he was quite critical of Trump in the past, and now his position seems to have shifted significantly. Those kinds of statements are not constructive.”
Hogan’s varied reactions to the vice presidential nominees underscore his strategy to appeal to a broad electorate, especially in Maryland, where Democrats hold significant influence. His Senate opponent, Angela Alsobrooks, welcomed Walz’s nomination.
Previously, Hogan told the Washington Examiner that he would not support either Harris or Trump, criticizing Harris’s policies as “disastrous” and “far-left.” His statements have sparked responses from both sides of the political spectrum, with Democrats criticizing his lack of endorsement for the full ticket and Republicans questioning his overall message.
“It’s unfortunate that a personal expression of goodwill can be misinterpreted as a political maneuver,” said Hogan’s spokeswoman, Blake Kernen. “Governor Hogan’s comments were made in the spirit of respect and personal connection, not partisanship. His leadership is characterized by a human touch rather than rigid political statements.”
