News Host Smears GOP For Riding With Trump

On MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” co-host Joe Scarborough asserted that the Republican Party has sealed its own fate by choosing former President Donald Trump as their nominee rather than considering alternative candidates. Scarborough expressed concern about the party’s focus, questioning when it would refocus on strategies to win elections.

The 2024 presidential race has experienced a significant shift in recent weeks following President Joe Biden’s decision to withdraw from the race and endorse Vice President Kamala Harris as his successor. Harris has since gained momentum in the polls against Trump. Scarborough highlighted a point made by Tim Carney of the Washington Examiner, who criticized Trump’s remarks about Harris on Truth Social. Trump had claimed that Harris used artificial intelligence to create the illusion of a crowd awaiting her arrival, which Carney deemed a “misstep.”

Scarborough remarked, “The Republicans have decided their path. We’ve been warning them about this direction. I’ve heard from numerous people—whether they were Republicans, independents, or even Democrats—about their enthusiasm for Nikki Haley. She was seen as a dynamic candidate with a fresh perspective and a diverse background. Much like the current enthusiasm surrounding Kamala Harris, many Democrats were also excited about Haley.”

In his op-ed, Carney argued that Trump’s attacks on Harris are generally counterproductive, noting that Trump’s criticisms often come across as incoherent or factually incorrect. This weakness, Carney suggested, could be advantageous to the Democratic Party in the general election.

Similarly, Morning Joe co-host Mika Brzezinski criticized Trump for his disparaging remarks about Senator Jon Tester (D-MT), which she described as an attack on Tester’s appearance. Trump had previously mocked Tester’s physical appearance during a Montana rally, a move Carney also condemned, arguing that such behavior is precisely why Democrats might prefer Trump as the Republican nominee.

With Harris now leading the Democratic ticket, polling has shown a notable increase in her support compared to Trump. One recent poll indicates Harris leading Trump 52% to 48%, a stark contrast to earlier polls that had Trump ahead of Biden. This shift underscores growing skepticism about Biden’s electability following his first debate.

The second presidential debate is scheduled for September 10, hosted by ABC News. Despite Trump’s preference for a Fox News-hosted debate, he has confirmed he will participate in the debate against Harris.
