Kamala will say anything to slander Trump won’t she?
The Harris campaign has criticized former President Trump for holding a rally on Tuesday in Howell, Michigan—a city with a complex and controversial past, including a recent white supremacist demonstration. The criticism centers on Howell’s historical association with the KKK, a link largely due to past Klan meetings in the area led by Robert Miles, a former Grand Dragon. Despite efforts by the city to shed this unsavory reputation, it occasionally faces reminders of its past.
Alyssa Bradley, the Michigan communications director for the Harris campaign, accused Trump of choosing Howell as a venue to send a divisive message. In her statement, she condemned Trump’s rally as a “bullhorn” for encouraging violence rather than addressing legitimate concerns about crime and safety. Bradley contrasted Trump with Kamala Harris, framing the choice in the upcoming election as between a prosecutor dedicated to community safety and a candidate who allegedly promotes divisiveness and regression.
Last month, Howell saw a disturbing protest with a dozen demonstrators waving white supremacist flags and chanting support for Trump. Nearby, additional protesters displayed antisemitic symbols and slogans, including “KKK” and other hateful chants. In response, Bradley accused Trump of failing to denounce these hateful actions associated with his name.
The Trump campaign, however, has strongly refuted these claims. Karoline Leavitt, a spokesperson for the Trump campaign, criticized the media for not applying the same level of scrutiny to Harris and Biden. She highlighted that President Biden had previously held an event in Howell in 2021 without similar criticism. Leavitt argued that the mainstream media is biased against Trump and claimed that he will address issues of crime and hate unequivocally if re-elected.
Representative Byron Donalds, a Black Republican from Florida, also weighed in, condemning the white supremacist demonstrations but urging recognition of the many good residents of Howell. Donalds emphasized that focusing solely on the negative aspects of a community ignores the hardworking, decent people living there.
As the Democratic National Convention unfolds and the election battle intensifies, Michigan remains a crucial battleground. Current polls show a tight race, with Harris leading Trump by a narrow margin, underscoring the state’s pivotal role in the upcoming election.
