Former President Obama recently voiced strong concerns about Project 2025, a conservative policy agenda that he claims threatens American freedoms. In a recent appearance on the “I’ve Had It” podcast with Jennifer Welch and Angie “Pumps” Sullivan, Obama engaged in a lighthearted game called “Had It or Hit It?” but took a serious tone when discussing Project 2025.
Obama described Project 2025 as a sweeping and troubling initiative that could severely undermine the rights and freedoms cherished by Americans. He stated, “This agenda represents a fundamental shift away from the freedoms we hold dear. It’s designed to dismantle essential services, such as the Department of Education, and strip away many rights that Americans rely on.”
He elaborated, “The vision laid out in Project 2025 does not reflect the kind of America we aspire to be. It’s crucial that we protect our values, including equal treatment for all, a woman’s right to make her own choices, and the opportunity for everyone to succeed through hard work.”
Former President Trump and his campaign have distanced themselves from Project 2025, which is a comprehensive 900-page policy document outlining a hard-right agenda for a potential future GOP administration. Despite this distancing, the Harris campaign continues to spotlight Project 2025 as indicative of what a second Trump term might entail.
Obama cautioned that the proposals within Project 2025 could erode the principles that underpin American society. He emphasized, “Our patriotism is linked to our commitment to equality and community support. Project 2025 fails to uphold these principles, and it’s critical that we prevent such a vision from taking root in the White House.”
When asked about a recent projection of “Project 2025 HQ” onto the Chicago Trump Tower during the Democratic National Convention, Obama playfully responded, “I didn’t see it, and I wasn’t involved. But it sounds like a clever move.”
