Liz Cheney needs to get a life.
On Sunday, former Representative Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) made a bold claim: if Ronald Reagan were alive today, he would unequivocally oppose Donald Trump. Cheney, a vocal critic of Trump since the January 6th Capitol riots, firmly asserts that Trump’s policies and actions starkly diverge from the principles Reagan championed.
In an interview on ABC News’s “This Week,” Cheney emphasized that Trump’s approach is fundamentally at odds with Reagan’s legacy. She urged her fellow Republicans, both in Congress and nationwide, to critically evaluate Trump’s record and the potential risks associated with his political maneuvers. Cheney criticized Trump’s actions following the 2020 election, suggesting that his attempts to cling to power represent a serious threat not only to traditional Republican values but to the very Constitutional framework of the United States.
Cheney, who cast her first presidential vote for Reagan in 1984 and has historically supported Republican candidates, has announced her intention to vote for Vice President Kamala Harris in the upcoming election. She described this shift as a matter of principle, driven by the critical nature of the current political landscape.
Cheney praised Harris’s nomination acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention, noting that it reflected a profound appreciation for America’s exceptionalism and unity. According to Cheney, Harris’s message resonates with the values of Ronald Reagan and former President George H.W. Bush. In contrast, Cheney criticized Trump for portraying America as a failing nation and a global laughingstock.
Following Cheney’s endorsement of Harris, her father, former Vice President Dick Cheney, also publicly supported Harris. He issued a statement underscoring the importance of defending the Constitution, regardless of party affiliation. The elder Cheney condemned Trump as the greatest threat to the republic in its history, accusing him of trying to undermine the election results through deceit and violence. He concluded that Trump should never hold power again.
