Here’s what Trump had to say.
Former President Donald Trump has expressed reluctance about participating in another debate with Vice President Kamala Harris, citing the recent debate as a key reason for his hesitation.
In an interview with “Fox & Friends” on Wednesday morning, Trump revealed his diminished interest in a second debate. “I’d be less inclined to participate because we had an excellent performance the last time,” he said. “We clearly won the debate. The network coverage was abysmal; they should be ashamed of their performance.”
Trump’s recent debate with Harris took place at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, where he declared it his “best debate ever.” He asserted that the debate was unfairly skewed against him, claiming it was a “three-on-one” battle due to the perceived bias of ABC News moderators David Muir and Linsey Davis. Trump expressed his frustration on Truth Social, describing the moderators as biased and accusing them of failing to fact-check Harris with the same rigor they applied to him.
“I think ABC News took a major hit last night,” Trump commented. “As a licensed news organization, their conduct was unacceptable. They should face repercussions for their biased coverage.”
In contrast, Trump praised CNN for its handling of his debate with President Joe Biden in June, before Biden withdrew from the race and endorsed Harris. “CNN was much more honorable in their debate coverage with Biden,” Trump said, reflecting on the disparity in media treatment.
Following the debate, Harris’ campaign has accepted Trump’s challenge for a second debate in October. However, Trump’s senior adviser, Jason Miller, expressed skepticism about Harris’ commitment. “Trump has agreed to a debate on September 25 with NBC News. Harris’s campaign, on the other hand, is suggesting a debate much later, which seems more like a tactic to avoid immediate confrontation,” Miller argued.
Additionally, Trump took a swipe at pop star Taylor Swift after she endorsed Harris on Instagram. “I actually prefer Brittany Mahomes,” Trump said, referring to the wife of NFL quarterback Patrick Mahomes. “She’s a big Trump supporter, and I think she’s fantastic compared to Taylor Swift.”
Trump’s remarks underline his dissatisfaction with the debate process and his ongoing critique of media bias, reflecting his continued assertiveness and strategic positioning as the campaign progresses.
