Former U.S. Ambassador to Germany Ric Grenell recently shared his insights on the upcoming United Nations General Assembly, expressing keen interest in the remarks of newly elected Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. During an appearance on Newsmax’s “Sunday Report,” Grenell highlighted a concerning trend: Iran is currently benefiting from substantial financial support, largely attributed to the Biden administration’s decisions on sanctions relief and financial aid.
Grenell pointed out that Iran’s coffers are filled with hundreds of billions of dollars, thanks to the actions of President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. He recalled a 2019 report from The New York Times that revealed how Trump’s sanctions had effectively curbed funding to groups like Hezbollah and Hamas. Now, however, these Iran-backed factions are engaged in aggressive military actions, a shift Grenell directly correlates to the current administration’s policies. “The funding of these conflicts is a direct result of the Biden administration’s leniency towards Iran,” he stated.
He expressed skepticism about the approach taken by the Biden team, suggesting that their belief in reforming Iran’s behavior through diplomacy has backfired. Grenell also criticized Rob Malley, the chief negotiator for the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, accusing him of compromising U.S. intelligence in pursuit of appeasement. “It’s outrageous that this administration continues to tolerate such incompetence,” he remarked.
Grenell advocates for the peaceful resolution of conflicts in the Middle East and praises the Abraham Accords initiated by former President Trump. He believes that a cooperative dialogue among nations is essential for achieving lasting peace. “We need to bring everyone to the table, ensure the safe return of hostages, and eliminate threats like Hamas,” he emphasized.
Moreover, Grenell expressed concerns about the security protocols surrounding political figures in Washington, questioning the level of protection offered to President Biden and the motivations behind Vice President Harris’s stance on security measures. He urged greater accountability within the Secret Service, stating, “If leadership is truly concerned, they should be actively seeking improvements.”
