During his appearance on “Wake Up America Weekend,” McLaughlin emphasized the importance of these states, stating, “The key is the battleground states. Donald Trump is running even or ahead in all the battleground states.” He also noted Vice President Kamala Harris’s renewed focus on the border, suggesting that her desperation reflects the Democrats’ anxiety about their position in the upcoming election.

McLaughlin’s analysis indicates that Republicans are performing better in these key regions compared to their results in 2020. This optimism is significant, considering the historical context of polling. For instance, during the 2016 election, FiveThirtyEight predicted Trump had only a 29% chance of victory, while Hillary Clinton was seen as the clear frontrunner with a 72% chance. Fast forward to 2020, and Trump’s chances were estimated at just 10%, with President Biden’s chances soaring to 89%.

Current projections for 2024 show a similar trend, albeit slightly more favorable for Trump. FiveThirtyEight’s latest simulation suggests that Kamala Harris has a 57% chance of winning, while Trump stands at 43%. While these numbers still favor Harris, they indicate a more competitive race than in previous cycles, signaling that the Republican base remains energized and committed.
