“I’m always worried about safety at my events,” Trump stated. He noted that the White House has not been supportive, saying, “I believe we’re entitled to proper security. My rallies draw crowds that are often ten to twenty times larger than those of any other candidate.”
Following two recent assassination attempts, including a foiled plot at his golf course in Palm Beach, Florida, calls have increased for Trump to receive the same Secret Service protection as the current president. Recently, Congress unanimously passed legislation to enhance security for Trump, allowing him to receive protection levels comparable to that of sitting presidents and vice presidents. President Biden signed this important bill into law, which reflects a rare moment of bipartisan support.
“The way the White House operates makes it very difficult to secure these events,” Trump commented, pointing to challenges in planning his massive rallies. He referenced a potential gathering in Wisconsin that could have attracted 60,000 attendees, which could not proceed due to inadequate security arrangements.
Despite the current limitations, Trump acknowledged that the Secret Service is doing their best under difficult circumstances. “They’re constrained by what the White House allows,” he explained. “We need to ensure the safety of not just me, but all my supporters who attend these rallies.”
