Trump Puts Jack Smith In His Place

Jack Smith refuses to back down.

On Friday, former President Donald Trump expressed strong criticism of special counsel Jack Smith and the judge overseeing his case regarding the alleged efforts to undermine the 2020 election. His comments came just before Smith released a new set of documents, further escalating the ongoing legal battle.

During an appearance on “The Dan Bongino Show,” Trump declared, “The judge is allowing him to proceed with this nonsense, and it’s simply unbelievable.” He described Smith as “a sick puppy” and claimed that the timing of these document releases amounts to election interference, stating, “This is a terrible thing happening to our democracy.”

Trump also directed his ire at U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan, who recently dismissed Trump’s attempt to postpone the release of documents related to the case. He remarked, “This judge is the most evil person. Everyone warned me to avoid Chutkan, and look who I ended up with.”

Judge Chutkan had previously granted Smith’s request to unseal various exhibits connected to his 180-page brief, which argues that the actions Trump took during the transition of power were those of a private citizen and not within the scope of presidential authority. Smith maintains that despite a Supreme Court ruling granting former presidents a degree of immunity, significant legal grounds still exist for prosecuting Trump’s conduct.

Indicted on federal charges last year in Washington, D.C., Trump faces four counts related to allegations that he led a conspiracy to defraud the U.S. and obstruct the certification of votes on January 6, 2021. As these developments unfold, many Republicans are rallying around Trump, viewing the case as a politically motivated attack rather than a legitimate legal challenge. The atmosphere is charged, and supporters are increasingly vocal about what they see as an injustice aimed at undermining their chosen leader in the run-up to the 2024 election.
