California Fires To Get Wildly Political?

In a recent interview with Newsmax, presidential adviser Dick Morris warned that the devastating fires currently tearing through Los Angeles could have a significant political impact, especially in California’s traditionally liberal stronghold of Southern California. As of Saturday, two major fires—the Palisades and Eaton fires—have already scorched more than 35,000 acres, destroyed over 12,000 structures, and tragically claimed 11 lives. Nearly 200,000 people have been forced to evacuate their homes, leaving the city and its residents in a state of crisis.

Morris believes this disaster will have a lasting effect on California’s political landscape, potentially shifting the state toward Republican control. While it may not flip the entire state, he argues that the sheer scale of the destruction could lead many voters to reconsider their loyalty to the Democratic Party, especially given that Southern California is a key base for Democrats. The inept response from state and local leaders, Morris notes, will not go unnoticed.

He pointed out that Democrat Governor Gavin Newsom has been heavily criticized for his decision to destroy dams and release millions of gallons of snowmelt into the Pacific Ocean, a move seen by many as wasteful and poorly planned. In addition, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, also a Democrat, made headlines for slashing the fire department’s budget by $18 million. These actions, Morris contends, reflect a misplaced priority of appeasing environmental lobbyists at the expense of public safety.

“This is a prime example of putting the demands of the green agenda ahead of the urgent needs of the people of Los Angeles,” Morris said. He believes that these decisions will have serious political consequences, potentially costing Democrats dearly in the upcoming elections. If California voters hold their leaders accountable for their failures during this crisis, the state could witness a major political shift in favor of Republicans.
