Pelosi Laughs At Biden’s Demise

Recently, Speaker Emerita Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) appeared on Bill Maher’s show to promote her book, The Art of Power. During the episode, Maher made a jesting reference to Pelosi’s rumored influence in persuading President Joe Biden to step down as the Democratic presidential nominee. The comment elicited laughter from the audience and a knowing smile from Pelosi.

Maher, with a grin, remarked, “Sometimes you’re discouraging people to run. We’re not gonna get into that,” prompting more laughter. Pelosi, maintaining a slight smile, responded, “People make their own decisions,” before the conversation moved on.

Previously, reports indicated that Pelosi played a significant role in convincing Biden to withdraw from the race, allegedly based on poll numbers and his performance during a contentious debate with former President Donald Trump. According to sources, Pelosi, along with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), was instrumental in urging Biden to step aside. She reportedly warned that Biden’s continued candidacy could jeopardize the Democrats’ chances of winning back the House and harm other Democratic candidates down the ballot.

Despite these reports, Pelosi has been somewhat evasive about her exact role in Biden’s decision to step down. In her speech at the Democratic National Convention, Pelosi praised Biden’s achievements and expressed confidence in Vice President Kamala Harris, saying, “Thank you, Joe. I know that Vice President Harris is ready to take us to new heights.”

In the aftermath of Biden’s withdrawal, recent polls show a revitalized Democratic presidential race, with Harris gaining ground in key swing states. The once-clear advantage that Trump seemed to hold has evaporated, resulting in a competitive race between Harris and Trump, with current polls suggesting a tight contest.
