Biden has crossed the line with his attacks on Trump this time.
On Monday, President Biden labeled Donald Trump as a “convicted felon” for the first time following Trump’s guilty verdict in the Manhattan hush money trial. This statement was made during a fundraising event in Greenwich, Connecticut, where Biden suggested that Trump’s 2024 presidential bid is motivated by a desire to safeguard his own liberties.
Biden, 81, addressed donors at the residence of former HBO CEO Richard Plepler, stating, “For the first time in U.S. history, a former American president who is a convicted felon is trying to win the presidency.” This marked the first occasion that Biden personally used the term “convicted felon” in reference to Trump, despite his campaign having employed the term since the May 30 verdict.
Biden emphasized the severity of the situation, describing Trump’s actions as an “all-out assault” on the American justice system. He expressed concerns about the threat Trump poses if elected for a second term, fearing Trump would seek revenge for his 2020 election loss and subsequent legal issues. “Something snapped in him when he lost in 2020,” Biden remarked. “He can’t accept he lost and it is literally driving him crazy. He is clearly unhinged.”
Highlighting Trump’s recent criminal convictions, Biden asserted that Trump is primarily focused on preserving his own freedoms. Meanwhile, the Trump campaign has experienced a significant financial boost following the guilty verdict, reporting nearly $53 million in donations within 24 hours, with about one-third from first-time contributors. In May, Trump’s campaign, along with the Republican National Committee, raised a combined $141 million for his presidential run.
In response to Biden’s comments, Trump campaign advisers Chris LaCivita and Susie Wiles released a statement expressing gratitude for the support, asserting that the American people rejected what they called “Crooked Joe Biden’s rigged trial.” They confidently predicted that the “REAL verdict” would come on November 5th.
Prominent Democratic figures such as Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont, Senators Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy, Representative Jim Himes, and former Senator Chris Dodd were present at the fundraiser.
Reacting to Biden’s remarks, senior Trump campaign adviser Jason Miller accused Biden of attempting to divert attention from his son Hunter Biden’s federal gun trial in Delaware.
