Biden and Kamala fix the border? Yea right! Glad to see Republicans step up.
In a recent interview with NewsNation’s Ali Bradley, Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) declared that while Texas has successfully addressed its own border challenges, the broader issue of national immigration and border security remains unresolved. According to Abbott, the solution to this problem lies in electing a new president committed to securing the U.S. border effectively.
Abbott has been at odds with the Biden administration over the increasing migrant crossings at the Texas-Mexico border. With Vice President Kamala Harris taking over the Democratic presidential ticket, Abbott has proposed a significant enhancement to border security measures, including tripling the deployment of razor wire barriers along the border.
During the interview, Abbott discussed some of his most contentious border security measures. Last month, the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that Abbott could continue using the floating barrier in the Rio Grande, a measure designed to deter illegal crossings into Texas. Despite this, the Biden administration has argued that Texas is infringing on federal jurisdiction and violating the Rivers and Harbors Act.
Abbott has signaled that additional floating barriers might be deployed in the Rio Grande, though he is awaiting a final court decision before proceeding with further investments. He also noted that migrants are not only entering Texas from the Mexican border but are also being redirected from other states such as Arizona and New Mexico. In response, Texas has started installing razor wire along its borders with these states to prevent the influx of migrants and the activities of cartels.
Abbott pointed out that the cartels are shifting their operations to states like New Mexico, Arizona, and California due to Texas’s increased resistance. As part of his broader strategy, Operation Lone Star, Abbott has also organized the transportation of migrants to Democratic-led states like New York, Illinois, and Colorado. While he acknowledges that these busing efforts are not his primary goal, Abbott maintains that they serve to discourage migrants from heading to Texas.
Looking ahead, Abbott anticipates a rise in migrant numbers and remains prepared to reactivate busing operations if necessary. His commitment to border security underscores his stance that effective management of the border is crucial to national security and state sovereignty.
