Can Trump Unify America Again?

Meghan McCain Trashes The View

Meghan McCain, the former co-host of The View, recently criticized the show for its lack of a strong conservative voice that fully supports President-elect Donald Trump, especially after his victory in the 2024 election. McCain, who left the show years ago, expressed frustration over the direction The View has taken, describing it as a “radical progressive insane asylum.” She made it clear that this was one of the reasons she chose to walk away from the show, stating that she no longer wanted to be associated with its liberal messaging and lack of ideological balance.

Her comments followed a recent moment on The View where co-host Sara Haines, while speaking about the tone of the Democratic Party, suggested that Democrats needed to reconsider how they speak to their voters. Haines pointed out that many people who voted for Trump feel patronized by the condescending attitude of the left, which fails to understand why so many Americans are drawn to his message. Haines implied that the Democrats’ tone and messaging were partly to blame for Trump’s continued popularity.

Meanwhile, The View‘s more liberal hosts, such as Sunny Hostin, expressed disappointment with the election results and made it clear they did not support Trump’s policies or his approach. However, McCain argued that this reflected a deeper problem on the show—the absence of a genuine conservative perspective. She pointed out that while Alyssa Farah Griffin, a former Trump White House aide, is a conservative voice on the panel, her vote for Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 election only further highlighted the disconnect between the show and Trump supporters.

McCain believes it is a disservice to viewers that The View does not have a conservative woman who can explain why Trump continues to have such a strong base of support. She feels that the show’s lack of a true conservative voice undermines any attempt at offering a balanced perspective and reinforces the mainstream media’s tendency to ignore or dismiss conservative viewpoints. In McCain’s view, this failure to represent Trump supporters adequately is a significant oversight by ABC.
