Tulsi Gabbard Comes To Trump’s Defense
In a recent appearance on CNN’s State of the Union, former Representative Tulsi Gabbard stepped up to defend former President Donald Trump amidst controversy involving Arlington National Cemetery. The dispute arose after accusations that the Trump campaign violated cemetery policies during a recent commemoration event.
Gabbard, a former U.S. Army officer and veteran, provided a first-hand account of the event. She recounted her experience attending the wreath-laying ceremony alongside Gold Star families and survivors of the tragic Afghanistan withdrawal. “I witnessed a profound and solemn tribute to the fallen heroes,” Gabbard stated. “President Trump was present for several hours, spending meaningful time with the Gold Star families, as per their invitation.”
According to Gabbard, any claims of misconduct by the Trump campaign were unknown to her until they became a national news story. She emphasized that the ceremony was a moment of collective grief and remembrance, highlighting the contrast between this somber occasion and the political controversy that followed. Gabbard also criticized Vice President Kamala Harris for not participating in the commemoration despite being invited, suggesting that her absence was a slight to the grieving families.
Addressing the alleged violation of Arlington National Cemetery’s rules, Gabbard affirmed that the Trump campaign had confirmed with cemetery officials that they were permitted to bring a camera to document the event. “I verified with the campaign that they had obtained the necessary permissions,” Gabbard explained. “As far as I am aware, the Army has indicated that the issue is resolved.”
Gabbard, who previously ran for president as a Democrat in 2020 and left the party to become an independent in 2022, expressed frustration over the media’s lack of focus on the significant anniversary. “What truly outrages me is the inadequate coverage of the third anniversary of the loss of these 13 Gold Star families,” she said. “The real issue here is the insufficient recognition of their sacrifice and the lack of respect for their memory.”
As a prominent former Democrat now supporting Trump, Gabbard’s defense underscores her ongoing critique of current political dynamics and media coverage.
