Republican Orders Trump To Tamp Down Rhetoric
New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu has once again urged former President Donald Trump to refocus his campaign strategy, emphasizing the importance of pivoting away from personal attacks and concentrating on the upcoming election. In a recent interview with CNN, Sununu suggested that Trump might adjust his approach if his polling numbers continue to decline. He warned that failing to do so could jeopardize Trump’s chances of winning.
Sununu stressed that Trump must seize the opportunity to refocus his campaign messaging. “It’s essential that he doesn’t miss this chance,” Sununu told CNN’s Kaitlan Collins. “Effective campaign management involves the basics, and if Trump embraces this approach, he has a solid chance of securing victory.”
The governor emphasized that the responsibility for winning the election ultimately rests with Trump. “This is Trump’s campaign to win or lose,” Sununu remarked. “If he fails, it’s his responsibility, and he shouldn’t blame anyone else for a lost opportunity.”
Despite having endorsed former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley, who has since suspended her campaign, Sununu expressed confidence that Trump would adapt his strategy. He noted Trump’s recent conciliatory remarks about Georgia Governor Brian Kemp as evidence that Trump is aware of the need to mend fences and improve his professional image.
Sununu also commented on the recent suspension of independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s campaign, which included Kennedy’s endorsement of Trump. He believes that Kennedy’s support could benefit Trump by attracting independent and swing voters. “Kennedy’s endorsement is likely to shift the momentum in favor of the Republicans,” Sununu predicted.
As Trump continues to face challenges in key swing states, Sununu anticipates that the former president’s declining poll numbers will drive him to adjust his campaign tactics. “The pressure from swing state polls could prompt Trump to refine his strategy and potentially regain traction,” Sununu suggested.
Despite calls from some Republicans to focus more on policy rather than personal attacks, Trump has remained defiant. During a recent rally, he defended his combative approach, citing attacks from former President Obama and Michelle Obama as justification for his continued personal rhetoric. “If they can get personal with me, then why shouldn’t I be allowed to respond in kind?” Trump argued.
