Hollywood stars need to stick to making movies.
Jennifer Aniston, known for her candid discussions about her fertility journey, has voiced strong criticism against JD Vance, the Republican vice-presidential nominee, for his past comments referring to childless women in politics as “miserable cat ladies.” The actress expressed her disbelief on Instagram, questioning the appropriateness of such remarks from a potential Vice President of the United States.
Aniston’s Instagram story featured a clip from 2021, in which Vance, then a Senate candidate, appeared on Tucker Carlson’s show. During the interview, Vance made controversial statements about Democrats and their leaders, suggesting that they were “childless cat ladies” whose lack of children made them less invested in the country’s future. He specifically mentioned Vice President Kamala Harris, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez as examples of this supposed trend.
In the clip, Vance argued that the absence of children among these political figures reflected a broader disconnect with the American populace. He questioned how individuals without children could truly relate to the issues facing families and the nation at large.
Aniston, who has been open about her struggles with fertility and in vitro fertilization (IVF), took to her social media platform to address Vance’s comments directly. She expressed her hope that Vance’s own daughter would one day have the opportunity to become a mother, possibly through IVF if necessary, and criticized Vance’s position on reproductive technologies.
In her Instagram post, Aniston wrote, “I hope your daughter will be blessed with the chance to have children of her own and that she will have access to the options she may need, like IVF.” Her comments highlighted her personal experience with fertility treatments and underscored her concern about legislative efforts that could restrict reproductive choices.
In addition to his controversial comments, Vance has previously supported the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade and has backed Texas’s restrictive abortion laws. Furthermore, Senate Republicans recently blocked a proposal to create a national right to IVF and other assisted reproductive technologies, a move that aligns with Vance’s stance on the issue.
Aniston’s remarks not only reflect her personal struggles but also a broader debate over reproductive rights and the implications of political leaders’ views on these deeply personal matters.
