Kellyanne Conway Issues Warning To Trump

Former White House adviser Kellyanne Conway has joined a growing group of GOP strategists urging former President Donald Trump to refine his campaign strategy. In a recent interview with Fox Business anchor Larry Kudlow, Conway emphasized that Trump must shift his approach to establish a “winning formula” against Vice President Kamala Harris in the upcoming election.

Conway asserted, “The path to victory for President Trump is clear: he needs to reduce the use of insults and focus more on offering detailed insights and policy contrasts.” Having worked closely with Trump for three years as his counselor, Conway retired from the role in August 2020.

She continued, “If President Trump emphasizes policy differences, he’ll prevail.” According to Conway, Trump holds a significant advantage over Biden-Harris on crucial issues such as the economy, inflation, border security, and the situation in Israel and Gaza. “He’s in a strong position if he focuses on these topics,” she said.

Conway had previously voiced similar advice in a New York Times guest essay published in January 2023. In that piece, she urged Trump to center his campaign on future-oriented policies rather than past grievances and to address the concerns of the working-class Americans who supported him in his first campaign. “A successful campaign must be about the future and the people’s issues, not personal attacks,” she noted.

Conway’s concerns are shared by other Republican strategists, including pollster Frank Luntz. Luntz has suggested that Trump’s combative style might undermine his campaign. “If Trump focuses on policy issues, he has a better chance of success. If the campaign centers on personal attributes, Harris could gain an edge due to her more favorable public perception,” Luntz commented during a CNN interview.

Rumors have circulated about a rift between Conway and Trump insiders following Trump’s selection of Sen. J.D. Vance as his running mate, with some MAGA supporters allegedly accusing Conway of negative press against Vance. Nevertheless, Conway remains a staunch supporter of Trump. In her interview with Kudlow, she praised Trump’s 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act and reaffirmed her belief in his potential for victory in 2024. “By clearly outlining what he stands for and contrasting it with his opponents, Trump can effectively highlight his advantages,” she concluded.
