DeSantis Reveals Rubio’s Replacement
In a significant move that signals Florida’s ongoing commitment to conservative values, Governor Ron DeSantis has chosen state Attorney General Ashley Moody to fill the U.S. Senate seat left vacant by Marco Rubio. Rubio, who has been nominated to serve as President-elect Trump’s Secretary of State, will be replaced by Moody, an outspoken supporter of the Trump administration and a staunch advocate for Florida’s Republican principles.
DeSantis made the announcement during a press conference in Orlando, expressing his confidence in Moody’s swift confirmation and her readiness to be sworn in shortly after President Trump’s inauguration. “Ashley has proven herself to be a tireless fighter for the values we hold dear in Florida,” DeSantis remarked, highlighting her work on major issues like opioid addiction, immigration reform, and her leadership in investigations that challenged federal overreach, particularly in relation to Trump.
In her own remarks, Moody pledged to bring the same level of energy and dedication to the Senate as she did to the Attorney General’s office. “I’ll fight for Florida’s future and continue to champion the America First agenda that President Trump has made so clear,” she said, affirming her commitment to the conservative cause.
Prominent Republicans, including Senator Rick Scott, quickly voiced their support for Moody, calling her a proven conservative leader with the right instincts to represent Florida in Washington. National Republican Senatorial Committee Chair Tim Scott also praised her as a “fighter” who will work to advance the policies that benefit the American people.
While several other potential candidates had been discussed, including Lt. Gov. Jeanette Nuñez and DeSantis’ Chief of Staff James Uthmeier, Moody emerged as the front-runner due to her record of legal expertise and unwavering support for conservative causes.
Moody, who was elected Attorney General in 2018, has a strong track record of standing up for law and order, protecting Florida’s families, and backing President Trump’s agenda. She was one of the vocal supporters of the Texas v. Pennsylvania lawsuit in 2020, which sought to challenge the presidential election results. Furthermore, she recently charged a man with attempted murder after an assassination attempt on President Trump at one of his Florida golf courses.
Though her political future remains uncertain beyond 2026, with some speculating she may run for re-election, it is clear that Moody’s ascension to the Senate will fortify Florida’s reputation as a Republican stronghold in the U.S. Senate.
As DeSantis and other Florida Republicans continue to solidify their hold on power, Moody’s appointment marks a decisive moment in the state’s political landscape, ensuring that Florida’s voice in Washington remains firmly aligned with conservative values.
