Pelosi Refuses To Leave Trump Alone

Pelosi has doubled down once again.

In a recent discussion on HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher,” former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) placed full blame for the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot on former President Donald Trump. This came after CNN aired new footage, filmed by Pelosi’s daughter, Alexandra Pelosi, offering an expanded view of Pelosi’s actions and statements the day after the Capitol was breached.

During the interview, Maher highlighted a particular clip where Pelosi says, “I take responsibility,” and asked her to elaborate. Pelosi clarified that her comment was not about accepting personal blame but rather about acknowledging the failure to ensure adequate security measures before the riot occurred.

Pelosi asserted that it was inconceivable to her that a sitting president would incite an attack on Congress and the Constitution. She stated, “I’m not taking responsibility for Donald Trump. The only responsibility I will take is ensuring he is not re-elected.”

Maher, who had previously expressed concerns about the potential for such an incident, showed frustration over the lack of preventive action. Pelosi, however, remained focused on Trump, accusing him of obstructing the deployment of the National Guard during the attack and of misleading the public about his actions.

For a Republican audience, this perspective highlights a continuous debate over accountability for the Capitol riot. Pelosi’s comments underscore her criticism of Trump while shifting the focus away from other potential failures or responsibilities, reflecting ongoing political tensions and differing viewpoints on the events of January 6.
