Biden is pushing some far-left ideas and red states are telling him they simply won’t fly here.
In a bold stance against the Biden administration’s alterations to Title IX, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis declared on Thursday that his state would refuse to comply with the proposed changes.
Through a video message shared on the social platform X, Governor DeSantis vehemently opposed President Biden’s efforts to amend Title IX, asserting Florida’s firm resistance and commitment to push back against such alterations.
“We reject President Biden’s endeavor to rewrite Title IX,” Governor DeSantis asserted. “Florida will not yield, and we will actively resist.”
Continuing his stance, Governor DeSantis emphasized the state’s determination to safeguard the integrity of women’s activities and parental rights against what he perceives as federal overreach.
“We will not allow President Biden to introduce males into women’s domains,” Governor DeSantis affirmed. “Nor will we permit him to undermine parental rights or abuse his constitutional authority to enforce these policies upon us here in Florida.”
The Biden administration recently revealed a finalized set of revisions to Title IX, aimed at extending protections to transgender students within the federal civil rights framework addressing sex-based discrimination. These modifications are scheduled to come into effect in early August.
Education Secretary Miguel Cardona hailed these amendments, asserting that they reinforce the core principles of Title IX, ensuring that all students have access to safe, inclusive educational environments.
Governor DeSantis has faced criticism from LGBTQ advocates for enacting state laws perceived as detrimental to their community, such as the contentious “Don’t Say Gay” legislation restricting discussions on LGBTQ topics in Florida’s public schools.
In response to such legislation, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) and Equality Florida issued a joint advisory last year cautioning against travel to Florida, citing concerns over the state’s policies jeopardizing basic freedoms and rights.
However, the U.S. Department of Education defended the finalized Title IX regulations, emphasizing their alignment with the statutory mandate to prevent sex discrimination in federally funded education.
In a memo addressed to school leaders, Florida’s Commissioner of Education, Manny Diaz Jr., reaffirmed the state’s staunch opposition to the changes, condemning the Biden administration’s attempt to redefine the statute, which he contends disregards the significance of biological sex.
Determined to uphold what they perceive as the original intent of Title IX, Florida remains steadfast in its refusal to adhere to the revised regulations, setting the stage for a potential legal and ideological clash between the state and the federal government.
