Should Trump Be Put On Mount Rushmore?

Vance Steps Up To Bat For Trump

Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) recently defended former President Donald Trump against calls from some GOP leaders to avoid personal attacks on Vice President Kamala Harris during a speech to the Milwaukee Police Association.

In his remarks, Vance expressed his belief that Trump should continue his straightforward approach rather than shift tactics. “I don’t think the president needs to change his style,” Vance remarked to the audience, eliciting some laughter. “The reason President Trump resonates with so many Americans is that they appreciate his authenticity. Even if they don’t always agree with him, they respect that he speaks his mind.”

Since Kamala Harris has taken on the role of the Democratic nominee for the 2024 presidential race, Trump has been vocal in his criticisms of her, targeting her racial background, her intelligence, and even making frequent references to a Time magazine cover featuring Harris. Despite advice from prominent GOP figures like Vivek Ramaswamy and Nikki Haley to focus on policy differences rather than personal attacks, Trump seems to be sticking to his approach.

Vance elaborated on his preference for Trump’s unfiltered style over Harris’s more scripted public appearances. “I’d rather have a candidate who speaks candidly and is genuinely themselves, even if I disagree with them on some issues, than someone who hides behind a teleprompter and doesn’t engage directly with the American people unless they have a prepared script,” Vance said.

Trump himself defended his right to criticize Harris personally during a recent appearance at his golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey. “I think I’m entitled to personal attacks,” Trump asserted. He criticized Harris’s intelligence and character, emphasizing his belief that her performance as vice president has been lacking.

Vance also noted that Trump has been actively addressing critical issues in his campaign, including veterans’ affairs and economic policies, and has been vocal about his opposition to the current administration’s handling of trade and energy policies. “We are focusing on policy and substantive issues,” Vance said, highlighting the campaign’s commitment to addressing key topics.

In his speech, Vance took aim at recent polling data showing Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN) being viewed more favorably than himself. He dismissed the significance of early polls, suggesting that once voters are fully informed about Walz’s record and the failures of Harris’s policies, those numbers will shift. Vance criticized Walz for his handling of crime and riots in Minneapolis, predicting that such issues will negatively impact his approval ratings.

Following Vance’s comments, the Milwaukee Police Association endorsed his and Trump’s candidacy, reflecting the GOP’s ongoing efforts to solidify support among law enforcement communities.
