Here’s what the former Attorney General said.
In a recent interview with Fox News’s Jimmy Failla on “Fox Across America,” former Attorney General William Barr voiced his strong condemnation of the New York hush money case against former President Trump, labeling it as an “abomination.” Barr expressed his surprise that the case was pursued by New York prosecutors despite its perceived lack of substance, describing it as “vaporous” and unworthy of pursuit.
Reflecting on the potential repercussions, Barr speculated on the public’s reaction, particularly in the context of a closely contested election, emphasizing his confidence that the guilty verdict would ultimately be overturned on appeal. Trump, facing 34 felony counts related to falsifying business records, has vowed to challenge the verdict through the appeals process.
While the jury’s unanimous guilty verdict affirmed the charges, allies of Trump have attempted to discredit the legitimacy of the trial, baselessly alleging political motivations orchestrated by Trump’s opponents within the Biden administration to impede his return to the White House.
Having resigned as attorney general during the twilight of the Trump presidency, Barr drew attention for publicly stating his findings of no widespread election fraud that could have altered the outcome of the 2020 election, a stance that drew ire from Trump and his supporters who propagated claims of a stolen election.
Despite his criticisms of both Trump and President Biden, Barr disclosed his intention to vote for the Republican presidential ticket in the forthcoming general election, citing a duty to choose the candidate he believes would inflict the least harm on the nation. He characterized a continuation of the Biden administration as “national suicide,” underscoring his preference for the Republican alternative, albeit acknowledging it as akin to playing “Russian roulette.”
