Why Trump Doesn’t Want To Hold Another Debate

Former President Donald Trump expressed skepticism about debating Vice President Kamala Harris on Friday, suggesting that such a debate might not be beneficial for his campaign.

In an interview with Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo, Trump conveyed that despite his willingness to engage in a debate, he questioned its value given his current standing in the polls. Trump pointed out that he is leading over Harris and emphasized his prominent public profile, arguing that a debate might not offer any strategic advantage for the MAGA movement.

“Why should I even consider a debate right now?” Trump told Bartiromo. “I’m ahead in the polls, and everyone is familiar with both of us. It doesn’t make much sense.”

The debate drama started when Trump initially expressed a firm intention to debate Harris. At that time, he clarified that the debate terms might be adjusted because the original agreement was made when President Joe Biden was still the top Democratic candidate.

Subsequently, Trump’s campaign stated that he would agree to debate Harris only after she officially became the Democratic presidential nominee. Despite this, Trump continued to express a desire for a debate while leaving open the possibility of withdrawing if necessary.

“I can also argue that there’s no need to go through with it,” Trump added in a Fox News interview.

Harris responded by accusing Trump of trying to avoid the debate during a campaign rally in Georgia later that evening.

The Democratic National Committee took advantage of Trump’s comments by launching an ad campaign accusing him of “dodging” the debate because he supposedly wants to hide his “dangerous Project 2025 agenda.” The ads are designed to target Trump in key states where he is actively campaigning.

Project 2025, established by the conservative Heritage Foundation, was intended as a framework for advancing a Republican agenda should Trump win the presidency. Despite this, Trump has publicly distanced himself from Project 2025.

In response to the controversy, the Trump campaign issued a statement asserting that any rumors of Project 2025’s end are premature. “Any attempts to misrepresent Project 2025’s influence or undermine President Trump’s campaign will not be tolerated,” the campaign declared, especially following the resignation of the project’s director.
