Trump is not happy whatsoever.
Former President Donald Trump did not hold back on his criticism of former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) following her recent appearance with Vice President Kamala Harris. Trump took to Truth Social to describe Cheney as a “low IQ War Hawk,” underscoring her significant defeat in the Wyoming primary last year, where she lost by a historic margin.
“Liz Cheney lost her Congressional seat by the largest margin in history for a sitting Representative,” Trump stated, asserting that the people of Wyoming have a clear understanding of what they want. He accused her of having a misguided approach to foreign policy, linking her to the controversial January 6 Committee, which he characterized as a group of “political hacks.”
Trump also took the opportunity to critique Cheney’s father, former Vice President Dick Cheney, questioning his decisions during the Iraq War and claiming that the Cheney family no longer represents the values of today’s Republican Party. He pointed out their endorsement of Harris, whom he labeled as one of the most liberal figures in politics, even more so than notable Democrats like Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders.
The former president emphasized that both Liz and Dick Cheney have become out of touch with the Republican base, suggesting their actions stem from what he called “Trump Derangement Syndrome.” He wished them “good luck,” implying their political futures are bleak.
In her recent speech in Ripon, Wisconsin—historically significant as the birthplace of the Republican Party—Cheney called for unity among Americans, regardless of political affiliations. She urged attendees to embrace the Constitution and to support her endorsement of Harris, positioning it as a patriotic duty.
Harris has been actively trying to appeal to disillusioned Republicans, promoting the idea of bipartisan cooperation and shared values. Her campaign is trying to establish a narrative of collaboration, even with those who have historically opposed her policies.
As the political landscape shifts, these developments illustrate a growing divide within the Republican Party, with figures like Cheney seeking to align with Democrats, while Trump continues to rally the traditional Republican base around his America First agenda. The stark contrast between their approaches reflects the ongoing struggle for the soul of the GOP, setting the stage for a contentious election cycle ahead.
