Haitian Group Calls Out Trump And Vance

A grassroots immigrant advocacy organization has taken a controversial step by filing a complaint in Springfield, Ohio, aiming to hold former President Trump and Ohio Senator JD Vance accountable for their recent comments regarding Haitian immigrants. The Haitian Bridge Alliance (HBA) claims that Trump and Vance’s rhetoric has incited fear and chaos, directly contributing to a series of bomb threats that have affected the local community.

The complaint, lodged in Clark County Municipal Court, argues that by amplifying baseless allegations about Haitian immigrants allegedly engaging in bizarre acts like pet abductions, Trump and Vance have irresponsibly endangered public safety. HBA Executive Director Guerline Jozef emphasized the need for accountability, stating, “Their comments have caused significant harm to our community, and we must address the fallout.”

The document outlines multiple alleged offenses, including disrupting public services and making false alarms. HBA asserts that these statements have spurred 33 bomb threats in a short period, leading to evacuations in hospitals, schools, and government buildings. Jozef’s assertion underscores a belief that such rhetoric violates the spirit of public safety and should be met with appropriate legal consequences.

It’s important to note that private individuals cannot directly file criminal charges. Typically, such actions are initiated by district attorneys or law enforcement. However, HBA is urging the court to act, expressing frustration that no formal charges have been filed despite what they see as overwhelming evidence of wrongdoing.

Moreover, the group argues that if any other individual had made similar incendiary claims leading to such widespread panic, law enforcement would have acted swiftly. HBA maintains that this is not merely a partisan issue but a stand against the spread of misinformation and hate, which can have dire consequences for marginalized communities.

In Springfield, the atmosphere has been charged since Vance’s public remarks and Trump’s subsequent comments during a national debate, which suggested that immigrants were engaging in horrific acts. These claims lack any factual basis, yet they have fueled a climate of fear and division, drawing condemnation even from local Republican leaders.

While HBA positions itself as non-partisan, its leaders stress the urgent need to confront the narratives that perpetuate racism and xenophobia in American politics. The message is clear: accountability should apply to everyone, regardless of their political stature. The community deserves protection from harmful rhetoric that threatens public safety and undermines social cohesion.
