In a recent NBC interview, Texas Governor Greg Abbott, a Republican, was queried about the possibility of joining former President Trump as his vice-presidential candidate. Abbott expressed gratitude towards Trump for considering him but emphasized his dedication to leading Texas. “He’s very generous to mention such possibilities,” Abbott remarked. “However, my true commitment lies in governing the great state of Texas. I’ve declared my candidacy for re-election, and that remains my primary focus,” he further stated.
Trump, who is currently leading the Republican race for the presidency, has hinted at various potential vice-presidential candidates in the past few months. Last week, he confirmed that Abbott is indeed on his list of considerations. “Absolutely, he is,” Trump affirmed during an interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity, conducted with Abbott by his side near the U.S. southern border. In addition, during a town hall with Fox’s Laura Ingraham, Trump revealed his shortlist also includes Senator Tim Scott (R-S.C.), entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R), Representative Byron Donalds (R-Fla.), South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem (R), and former Hawaii Representative Tulsi Gabbard. Gabbard, originally a Democrat, has become increasingly critical of the Democratic Party.
In an unexpected turn of events, President Biden faced a setback in the Democratic caucuses in American Samoa, losing to lesser-known candidate Jason Palmer. This surprising outcome emerged amidst Biden’s series of victories on Super Tuesday. Decision Desk HQ (DDHQ) announced the results Tuesday night, after confirmation from the Democratic Party of American Samoa. Palmer, an entrepreneur with a long-shot campaign against the incumbent, managed to secure a spot on the presidential ballot in 16 states and territories, as stated in a press release via PR Newswire. His campaign efforts in American Samoa were notably successful.
Although American Samoa, as a U.S. territory, does not contribute electoral votes in the general election, it plays a significant role in the Democratic National Convention by sending 11 delegates.
