The Town of Palm Beach issued a notice advising residents, including those at Mar-a-Lago, about issues with water clarity, specifically mentioning “turbidity.”

While clarifying that turbidity itself does not pose direct health risks, the advisory urged caution among vulnerable populations such as infants, pregnant women, the elderly, and individuals with compromised immune systems. These groups were advised to consult healthcare professionals regarding the safety of consuming the water.

The problem appears to stem from a water treatment anomaly in the neighboring City of West Palm Beach, which supplies Palm Beach with its public drinking water. Although the situation does not qualify as an emergency, the city detected elevated turbidity levels during routine testing in July.

City officials reassured residents that despite the turbidity issue, the water disinfection systems are fully operational and capable of neutralizing potential pathogens. They emphasized ongoing efforts to address the situation and explore technological upgrades to prevent future occurrences.

Palm Beach Town Council member Lew Crampton emphasized the council’s proactive stance in negotiations with West Palm Beach and Lake Worth Beach. They are advocating for advanced water treatment technologies like reverse osmosis to mitigate turbidity concerns effectively.

Crampton acknowledged the existing contract ensuring Palm Beach’s water supply from West Palm Beach until 2029 but indicated ongoing discussions to potentially diversify water sources or upgrade treatment facilities.
